OWNED BY MEMBERS
The Glenuig Community Inn is owned by its community shareholder membership of the Glenuig Community Inn Ltd (GCIL), a Community Benefit Society listed on the FCA’s Mutual Register.
Compliance with SLF requirements meant that GCIL needed to be primarily locally-owned, with the majority of member owners living within a defined geographical boundary. The community share offer therefore needed to ensure that we attracted more applicants from this ‘local’ area, although we certainly recognised that our locals do come from far and wide! Share applications were open to everyone, but this Funder requirement meant that some people could not join as individual members and instead formed groups for collective membership.
More detailed information on the share offer is available within the March 2025 share offer, available to download below.

Our pioneer investment, time-bound community share offer opened in March 2025, and successfully attracted 127 shareholders and groups. We hold regular member meetings and communicate directly with shareholder members. For any queries on your membership, shareholding or Society matters, please email shares@glenuigcommunityinn.org or write to GCIL Society Secretary, c/o Glenuig Inn, Glenuig PH38 4NG.
GCIL operates for the benefit of the wider community and our purpose defined in our Rules states the Society exists for:
• Acquiring, operating and maintaining the Glenuig Inn business and infrastructure, comprising licensed premises, food and rooms.
• Securing the sustainable future of our local hostelry at the heart of our community, providing events and opportunities for people to gather, with a warm welcome for residents and visitors alike.
• Providing employment for local residents, and a vital year-round benefit to the community in conjunction with other community-led entities in the village, thereby helping to minimise isolation.
• Trading for the benefit of the community; generating, retaining and applying profits to advance the Society’s purpose and objects.
Any trading surplus may be used to support a community benefit fund, helping local projects and initiatives, and as interest payable to community shareholders. Decisions on these matters are taken at Members’ Meetings.
